Classic Car Show
Cruisin' For A Cure is a large single-day car show where the proceeds from entry fees go directly to prostate cancer research. According to the Cruisin' For A Cure web site, not a penny goes to a car club, promoter, administration, or individuals. The show is organized by volunteers who work to organize this show and fundraiser in addition to their 'day jobs.'This charitable event which promotes itself as the "World's Largest Single Day Car Show" wrapped up a little more than a week ago and the final totals are in. The 7th Annual Cruisin' For A Cure show raised over $279,000 for the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center with over 3400 vehicles and over 200 vendors registering for the event. Those are not the only impressive numbers: over 970 men took advantage of the free Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test, a simple blood test that can detect the possibility of prostate problems. Next year the show will be held Saturday, September 22, on the Orange County Fairgrounds. The show plans on giving away a built Dearborn Downs Convertible Roadster designed by Chip Foose. Information on how to show your car, register as a vendor, pledge to the cause, or be a spectator can be found on the Cruisin' For A Cure website. The Great Race is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2007, and the even will be held between June 30th and July 14th. This year, the Great Race will be held in two one-week legs. The first leg of the rally will start in Concord, North Carolina, head down to Irving, Texas. The second leg will start the next day in Irving and ends in Anaheim, California, for a total of 4,000 miles over the two week period. The coast-to-coast race is open to classic vehicles 1969 and older, including muscle cars and hot rods. Hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles are also allowed. To apply, download the official entry form by clicking here (PDF). You will need the entry fee, a biography of the driver and navigator, a color picture of the driver and navigator, and color pictures of the front, side, and rear views of the vehicle submitted. Unfortunately, the $1.37 in loose change sitting in the ashtray of my Plymouth isn't going to cut it. The pre-registration deadlines are past, and therefore the entry fees run $6,000 for rookie, $7,500 for veteran, $12,000 for corporate, and $25,000 for enhanced corporate. The final deadline for applications is June 24th, 2007.

There were a vast variety of OEM and aftermarket hood ornaments and mascots produced during the golden age of automobiles and it can be tough to identify some ornaments. While it's unlikely anybody would mistake Chief Pontiac for Hernando de Soto, it can be tricky to sort out the umpteen streamlined airplanes. If you have not visited this hood ornament reference site you are in for a treat. The site catalogs dozens of hood ornaments and mascots manufactured between 1933 and 1966 for Buick, Cadillac, Chevy, Chrysler, Dodge, De Soto, Ford, Hudson-Terraplane, Kaiser, Lincoln, Mercury, Nash, Oldsmobile, Packard, Plymouth, Pontiac, Studebaker, and others. Even if you don't have a mystery piece of pot metal that needs an ID the photos alone are worth thumbing through.

History
The Oldsmobile 442
The 442 started life as an option package on the '64 Oldsmobile Cutlass, and become an independent model between '68 and '71, only once again to become an option package in the 1970s. The '64 package was created to allow Oldsmobile to get in on the success of the newly introduced Pontiac GTO and was essentially the police package re-branded into the 442 (four-barrel, four-speed, dual exhaust). The new 442 package would run you about 285 bucks. Over the years the fate of the 442 would ebb and flow. Highlights of which include a few of the following changes.

The new 442 package would run you about 285 bucks. Over the years the fate of the 442 would ebb and flow. Highlights of which include a few of the following changes. Come 1965, the 442 designation would come to mean 400 cubic inches, four-barrel, dual exhaust. 1966 would see the introduction of the L69 three two-barrel carb package and the W30 air induction package. 1968 saw the 442 become its own model and would also introduce the Hurst Olds package. In 1970 the 442's standard engine became the 455. In 1872, the 442 was once again an optional package rather than a model and the 350 became the standard engine (with the 455 an available option).
The year 1973 saw the 442 begin to diminish, and the 442 package became an appearance and handling option. Many of the 442 pieces of equipment still existed but had to be ordered separately. Slowly, the V8s gave way to V6s throughout the years and the 442 would be little more than a cosmetic upgrade. Eventually the 442 would find itself as a package on the front-wheel-drive 1990 and 1991 Cutlass Calais and 442 would finish its life meaning 4-cylinder engine, 4-valves per cylinder, and 2 camshafts. A rather sad end to a proud muscle car heritage. The Flickr photo sharing community has a large collection of 442 photos from many years and includes photos of many different option groups. This 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 by "w302nv" is one of many:

Hugh Writes: The bug has bitten me! What I have is a 1994 F-150 that I would like to restore. Are there any body shops in Columbus Ohio or surrounding area that you know of that does this type of work? Hugh,I cannot recommend any shops near, but I can direct you to a few sport truck clubs in your area. The clubs in your area are the best resources for local services, parts, shows, and other enthusiast interests. Club members always know the dirt on the best places to have work done .and where not to go. Members share the same interests that you do will also have a wealth of knowledge and helpful hints to pass on. Being a member of a car/truck has many other benefits too.Since your 1994 truck is still pretty new in terms of parts. Most all the parts you will need are still available from your local Ford dealer. Ford generally stocks parts for 15-20 years before obsoleting the parts out for a particular model. You can also go online to http://www.genuine-ford-parts.com/ and get what you need there. Currently, I am not aware of any reproduction parts vendors supporting these year Ford Trucks yet.

A Few Hudsons on eBay
There has been a bit of a rush on eBay lately with the Hudsons. Here are a few of the highlights, in addition to the ones already:
1949 Hudson Commodore 8 - A beautifully restored car that looks like new inside and out. Even the engine is immaculate. St. Louis, MO.
1952 Hudson Pacemaker - This is a partially finished custom with a GM drive train. Needs to be finished (or put out of its misery if customs are not your thing). Blacksburg, VA.
1950 Hudson Commodore Custom 6 - Looks like a heck of a project, but still very restorable. The description says it has an 8, but the photos clearly show the 6. McAllen, TX.
1948 Hudson pickup - Used as a yard sign for who knows how many years. There are not many details on this one and the photos don't help much, but it might be worth checking out. No box. Milan, IL.1949 Hudson Commodore - Good for parts or possible restore. I've seen worse go for more. Tuolumne, CA.
